Troubleshooting

UPS tracking not updating

UPS tracking stuck or not updating? Here's why UPS scans pause and exactly when to act.

Why it happens

UPS scans packages at pickup, at each hub and on delivery — not continuously. On a long ground route, 24–48 hours between scans is normal, especially over weekends.

"In Transit" with no new scan usually means the parcel is moving between facilities; "Label Created" that never advances means the shipper hasn't handed it to UPS yet.

What to do

  • Check whether the status is "Label Created" (waiting on the shipper) or "In Transit" (moving) — they mean different things.
  • Enable UPS My Choice to get proactive updates and a delivery window tied to your address.

When to escalate

If a UPS package shows no movement for 5+ business days past the expected date, contact UPS at 1-800-742-5877 or open a claim if it's insured.
